Crave Brothers

When milk prices crashed in the spring of 2009, many Wisconsin dairy farmers struggled to survive. In Wisconsin Reporter Art Hackett discovered the Crave Brother's farm near Waterloo had an advantage. It's called value added agriculture and includes energy efficient investments which paid off at the right time.

St. Croix Mussels

Matt Berg and his students from Grantsburg High School are diving into research in the headwaters of the Saint Croix River in Douglas County. They received a grant to study freshwater mussels and at the same time determine water quality. Berg told In Wisconsin Reporter Liz Koerner, mussels are like a "canary in a coal mine" because, if the mussels aren't doing well, everything else in the food chain suffers.

Lighthouse Docent

The Pottawatomie Lighthouse at the tip of Door County still stands as a beacon nearly 160 feet above the water's edge. The group "Friends of Rock Island" took this rundown lighthouse and turned it into a destination. Every summer volunteers can live in the lighthouse for a week at a time.

Paczkis

New Orleans has its Mardi Gras, Rio, Carnival. In Pulaski, the day before Lent begins is known as Paczki Day. In Wisconsin Reporter Andy Soth shows you why customers come all day long to Smurawa's Country Bakery to get the traditional jam-filled pastry known as Paczki and pronounced "poonchkey."

Bird Bath

All kinds of birds stop to frolic in this backyard birdbath in Cottage Grove.
