Why are Wisconsin's pine martens failing to thrive? This pint-sized predator is a member of the weasel family. The animal was driven from the state by excessive trapping around the turn of the century. Wisconsin researchers re-introduced pine martens in the late 1970's but it failed to take a foothold

Red Arrow History

We welcome home more than 3,400 Wisconsin National Guard members from the 32nd Separate Brigade who spent nearly a year in Iraq. It was the largest activation of Wisconsin National Guard troops since World War II.

Lighthouse Tour

Take a tour of Wisconsin's oldest light station. The Potawatomie Lighthouse was built before Wisconsin was even a state. It was shuttered when modern technology was installed to guide ships through the Rock Island Passage. But with help from the Friends of Rock Island group the lighthouse has been restored and is open for tours.

Arboretum Winter

Take a winter tour of the 1260 acre UW-Madison Arboretum. Since 1934 people have come here to restore the land, advance ecological restoration, and foster Aldo Leopold's land ethic.
