Photo Postcard
Thursday, January 6, 2011

You may have seen them, the studio portrait penny postcards that show up in estate sales and antique stores. They represent a time when few people had access to cameras. Now, Manitowoc artists Julie Lindemann and John Shimon are proving what's old is new again. The people getting their photos taken are having fun with this mix of old and new too...wearing a range of outlandish outfits or just not dressing up at all. The results are intriguing. Video available January 6th.

Chinese Etiquette
Thursday, January 6, 2011

The seemingly gracious act of giving, say a Green Bay Packer's hat as a gift to a business partner in China would actually be considered the height of rudeness. That's one of the lessons learned at a recent UW business school program on navigating Chinese business etiquette. The program is run by a visiting Chinese professor at UW Platteville. China is extremely important as Wisconsin's third largest trading partner. Video available January 6th.

Honey Study

Some 24 million people in the United States cope with issues of managing diabetes.  One of the most difficult problems affects about 15% of patients – sores that won’t heal. Dr. Jennifer Eddy at UW Health’s Family Medicine Clinic in Eau Claire is running a double blind clinical trial using honey to treat these foot sores.  An exciting update on Jay Burrow, the man featured in the show, says his foot is now completely healed.
