Airport De-Icers
Thursday, January 20, 2011

Every year airports across the country release large quantities of deicers into the environment. Some states, like Wisconsin, require recapturing a small portion of these chemicals. Deicers are necessary to insure passenger safety but what about the environmental threat? As part of our new environmental reporting project called "Quest"... In Wisconsin Reporter Liz Koerner shows you how researchers are looking for answers in the runoff at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

Goat Farming
Thursday, January 20, 2011

Wisconsin's dairy industry is promoting new ways to help farmers compete and one secret might be in the fast growing specialty cheese sector. One niche is cheese made from goats milk and made in Wisconsin. Reporter Andy Soth takes you to a large goat farm near Beaver Dam to show you how they are selling this dairy goat initiative. Then he visits Diana Murphy near Cross Plains who with just a few goats has established a loyal following for her goat cheese.

Northern Owls
Thursday, January 20, 2011

This is an update on a report we aired six years ago about an unexpected visitor to Wisconsin's Northwoods. In the winter of 2005 food was so scarce in Canada that Great Grey Owls moved south in records numbers. In an average winter, these birds are rare in Wisconsin. At that time there was a prediction they could return. In Wisconsin's Jo Garrett takes you back to Douglas County to show you these phantoms of the north.

FEATURED REPORT

IW825_parkour_200x160

Parkour

They're jumping, vaulting and flipping their way across the U-W Madison campus.  Watching Parkour enthusiasts leap over walls and flip over barricades may give the impression that they are reckless and out of control, but they would disagree. They say it’s a discipline like martial arts that combines running and gymnastics that is best mastered slowly and carefully. In Wisconsin Reporter Andy Soth visits a weekly practice and also shows highlights of a Parkour “jam” that brought some of the top practitioners to Wisconsin.
